USA F-1 visa and SEVIS fees: understand the two payments
The two listed student-visa charges are a starting point, not the total cost of studying in America.
The USA study preset separates the published F-category visa application charge from the I-901 SEVIS payment. The listed amounts are USD185 and USD350 respectively. Together they are USD535 for these two components. That subtotal is not a complete quotation for an F-1 application or for studying in the United States.
Keep the scope of the subtotal visible
Check current official instructions for any additional applicable charge, including nationality-based issuance fees and the implementation of the Visa Integrity Fee. The calculator does not establish whether an additional charge is currently collected from you. Do not interpret an omitted or disabled line as a confirmed exemption.
Build the rest from documents and quotes
Add school deposits, tuition payments, health insurance, document preparation, tests and travel only where they belong in your budget. Record who is actually paying. A family sponsor’s payment and your personal cash loss are different figures even though both can form part of the total.
A financial-evidence balance is not itself a fee. Keep it in the funds-held field, which is excluded from cost and refusal-loss totals. The calculator does not assess the amount or form of financial evidence required for your case.
Worked example with invented extra expenses
Start with the two listed charges of USD535. If your own budget adds a hypothetical USD80 document payment and a USD500 school deposit, selected payments become USD1,115. The example does not include insurance, tuition beyond that deposit, other applicable charges or living expenses. Replace its supplier figures with written quotes.
Cash refund is different from future re-use
Review each official payment’s current terms and each supplier’s contract. A payment credited to a later application, or a document you can use again, is not money refunded to your account. Where a cash-refund rule has not been verified, the calculator uses an editable 0% assumption and labels the uncertainty.
Save a source-currency version
Keep the original dollar amounts and receipts even if you display a budget in another currency. Exchange rates and payment fees can change what leaves your account. Download the estimate, note the source-check date and recheck the authorities before making a payment. No eligibility decision, recruitment service or immigration advice is provided here.
